In a season filled with disappointment and frustration, the 1-12 St. Bonaventure Men's lacrosse team is still clinging onto hope for a NCAA tournament bid. Despite being outscored by a combined 97 goals this season, the team's All-American-Hopeful tender boasts a .2 save percentage on the year.
Yes, you read that correctly. .2 save percentage. We're not sure if that's a typo or if the team's defense is just really that bad. But hey, let's not focus on the negative here. The team's leading point scorer, ”Wet Boy” Westley, is looking to break the NCAA single season points record this week against Richmond. He needs just 94 points to complete this impressive achievement.
To put that in perspective, the current record is 128
points. So, basically, Wet Boy needs to score almost every time he touches the ball for the rest of the season. No pressure.
Despite the odds being stacked against them, the St. Bonaventure lacrosse team remains optimistic. In fact, they've even come up with a new team motto: "It's not about winning, it's about breaking records." We're not sure if that's a healthy mindset for a sports team, but we'll give them points for creativity.
So, if you're looking for a team to root for in this year's NCAA tournament, look no further than St. Bonaventure. Will they make it to the big dance? Probably not. But hey, at least they have a goalie with a .2 save percentage and a point scorer who's aiming for the stars.
